Design of Church

The Church, designed by Mr. M. Thompson of Newcastle-upon-Tyne was, according to the Durham Advertiser (Friday, 11th Nov. 1861) "is of the decorated period of Gothic architecture and consists of tower and spire, north porch, nave, chancel and vestry. It is fitted with open seats, made from stained deal, with capacity for about 300 and has an open timbered roof, stained to resemble oak. Out of the chancel is an organ chamber, over which is a deeply recessed arch. At the west end is a tower and spire, 90ft. high, in which is placed the font. A porch is attached to the tower giving admittance into the Church through the tower. The church is successfully heated by hot water".
