Maha El Choubassi,

Applied Research Scientist, Facebook AI

I am an applied research scientist at Facebook AI. My areas of interest are computer vision, deep learning/machine learning, classification and object detection, and data mining.

I have built computer vision systems for real world applications through all the stages from the early scoping of the problem, to defining the taxonomy, designing the data sampling strategy, leading the annotation operations, designing/training/evaluating various deep learning architectures, and all the way to deploying the model to be accessible to product groups.

Before Facebook, I was a research scientist at Intel Labs in Santa Clara, California for 6 years.

For the years 2011 and 2012, I was an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department at the American University of Beirut (AUB).

I earned my Master's of Science and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC) in 2005 and 2008 respectively. My advisor was Prof. Pierre Moulin.

My Master's thesis is on "Novel Algorithms for Sensitivity Analysis Attacks" (December 2005).

My Ph.D. thesis is on "Security of Watermarking Schemes against Sensitivity Analysis Attacks" (December 2008).
