Q. I am concerned about the safety of information I am going to share with you.
A. What is shared with me in therapy is confidential. I take integrity as a therapist seriously and keep your confidential information safe as required by California Law.
Q. What if I started feeling bad and angry toward my family members?
A. You probably have reasons to feel that way. I will start from there and help you further explore these feelings. The source of anger can be hurt, disappointment, injustice, fear, embarrassment, or frustration. I will work with you to process those feelings.
Q. How long would it usually take before I start feeling better?
A. It depends on each client and the challenges that the client is facing. Some clients start feeling better after a few sessions. Those clients usually start feeling hopeful by being able to shift their point of view. For some clients, it takes a lot of effort to find the source of pain. It may take more than several sessions to start noticing a sense of relief.
Q. What if you cannot help me?
A. I will be checking in with you about your progress. I believe that honesty is important to make your psychotherapy meaningful. If my client and I find that we are not making a reasonable progress, I will probably review the goals we set at the beginning of therapy. If we both feel that it is not a good fit, I may refer you to other therapists.
