• Frank Taussig (1859-1940) did his PhD at Harvard under the supervision of Charles Franklin Dunbar (1830-1900), who held the first chair of Political Economy at Harvard in 1871, founded the Quarterly Journal of Economics in 1886, and wrote a book in 1917 titled, The Theory and History of Banking.

• Allyn Young (1876-1929) did his PhD in 1902 under the supervision of Richard T. Ely (1854-1943) & Walter Francis Wilcox (1861-1964).

  • • Richard T. Ely (1854-1943) did his graduate studies in 1879 at Heidelberg University under the supervision of Karl Knies (1821-1898) with roots in the economics traditions of Germany. 

    • Walter Francis Wilcox (1861-1964) did his graduate studies in 1891 at Columbia under the supervision of Richmond Mayo-Smith (1854-1901)

      • • Richmond Mayo-Smith (1854-1901) did his graduate studies in 1878 at Heidelberg University under the supervision of Karl Knies (1821-1898) with roots in the economics traditions of Germany. Richmond Mayo-Smith wrote a book in 1890 titled Emigration and Immigration: A Study in Social Science.
