Competitions

If you are an experienced player and you want to take your game to the next level, we offer several pathways into 'serious' competitive chess.

League, rapidplay and blitz events

Maybe you already play on the internet and you would like to try your hand at face-to-face chess. Playing as part of a team could be the answer. We offer opportunities to play for our local club, Streatham & Brixton Chess Club, in the London, Surrey and Croydon chess leagues. All the league games you play will be graded and teams are arranged by strength so you will usually be up against opponents of a similar standard to you. You can play your first few games of league chess for free, after which you will need to join Streatham & Brixton Chess Club and the English Chess Federation.

Streatham Library players can take part in competitions arranged by Streatham & Brixton Chess Club, including blitz and rapidplay events (pictured right).
