Submission of photos for publication on the Photo web site:
Photos will be accepted up until the date of the anniversary. We welcome submission of class photos taken between 1966 and 1972.
If you intend submission of photographs to this site, please consider the following:
- Please only use a scanner to obtain images for publication. Photographs of the class photos are unacceptable due to problems with cropping to rectangular edges and image quality.
- Align the master photos with the edge of the scanner. This can easily be done by placing a wide (20cm) but shallow (5cm) rectangular cardboard piece on the lower side of the scanned master, to ensure the master is square with the scanner platter but slightly distant from the scanner platter edges.
- If at all possible scan the photos in an uncompressed format such as TIFF (filename.tif), rather than the compressed JPEG (filename.jpg) format using either colour or at least a 256 shade greyscale scan. This is to ensure minimal loss of detail on the scan.
- Some scanners may only scan in JPG format, however even the cheapest Hewlett Packard Printer/Scanner/Copiers standardise on the TIFF format. Please do not convert the picture from a TIFF to a JPG format after the scan.
- Scan the photos in the largest possible resolution ie at least 200 dots per inch (dpi), rather than the standard 72 dpi. This enables greater detail to be recorded and the ability to read the class name/year placard on the photos. You will need to get into the <Settings> menu of your printer to adjust this. The Hewlett Packard Printer/Scanner/Copiers can be set for resolutions between 75 and 2400 dpi.
- Scanned files can be emailed to <CHS50th@outlook.com>, marked Attn: webmaster. Submissions should be made with the photos having the filename (year class.tif) and a student list sent in the form of a text file (year class.txt). This enables identification of the class lists and correlation with the photo.
- When forwarding the emails, please do not combine them in a wrapper, such as including them all in a Microsoft docx format file (filename.docx) or a PDF file (filename.pdf). There is also no advantage to compressing the files using the ZIP format.
- Any form of post scanning editing, formatting or compression only increases the complexity of the task of preparing the scans for publication, and reduces the detail in the final picture. Upon receipt, the photos will be edited for optimum size, format and perhaps image correction to ensure the best appearance on the website.
Obtaining Photographs from the Website:
- When uploaded to the Reunion website, Google automatically converts pictures to a lower quality JPEG file format and compresses them to about 60 kbytes file size. Thus downloaded pictures will only be of medium quality. All class photos are 640 pixels wide by about 300 to 450 pixels high.
- To download a photo, hover your mouse over the photo and right click on the mouse button then select <Save Image As> or press <CTRL V> to save the photo. Another suggestion would be to download the complete website, although the pictures would still be the same resolution.
