About Counselling

Everyone has the capacity to grow - rather like a plant. If it has the right conditions such as water, sunlight, warmth and nourishment, it will thrive.  A counsellor’s role is to help you to find all the conditions you need to enable your own self to thrive. I can offer you a safe  environment, in which you can feel heard and respected. I will help you explore, understand and make informed choices about your life. You can take the opportunity to talk about anything you wish. Whatever is bothering, upsetting or troubling you;  I will help you find some clarity and understanding relating to those issues

As a qualified counsellor and therapist I am here to listen and not judge. I will listen to what you are saying, but I am also trying to hear things you are not expressing and reflect them back to you.  It is as if you are talking to yourself in the room and I am listening to what you are saying and paraphrasing it back to you so you can ‘hear’ yourself in a deeper way.

I work primarily from a  person centred approach which means that I offer a non judgemental, genuine and empathic way of working with you. I may also incorporate aspects of other therapeutic models where appropriate, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA) if they will be helpful to you. There is no one theoretical model which fits everybody as we are individuals so it is important that I adapt to suit your needs.

You can find more information about the Person Centred approach and CBT therapy here, and about TA here

Therapy is conducted in sessions lasting one hour. The number of sessions, usually a week apart, will depend on how complex your issues are. I am here to offer you what works best for you. Our sessions are confidential.
