Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Office Policy

I want to continue to be a place of support for you while recognizing the ongoing orders to stay at home except for essential needs. Psychotherapy does count as an essential service. Yet, if an essential service can be delivered digitally, that is a precaution that could help us all stay well.

I am no longer offering sessions in my office except in special cases. I am offering video sessions, phone sessions, or outdoor hikes to promote all of our wellness. Here's details about teletherapy or virtual video sessions.

How could you come out of this thing even better off?

When you don’t know what to do, do what you know to do.

One step at a time. Break it down into bite-size tasks. Do the next right thing.

Who do you want to be during COVID-19?

There is an opportunity in this crisis to improve your life with free time cleared (in many cases) making room to focus on neglected areas. Life is calling our bluff on all the things we said we’d do when we had time! This time could be wasted in fear and self pity or you can use this time to reboot and catch up. Make an adult sticker chart to do things you find difficult! For example: Decluttering, organizing... and once you reach a goal reward yourself!

There are many things out of your control about this situation. Focus on what can you control about your life:

  • Exercise: walking, running, biking your neighborhood or trails, doing at home exercise videos
  • Nutrition: choosing a diet to fit your health needs and sticking to it, an anti-inflammatory diet is good for mood
  • Homemaking: put your house in order, decorate, organize, declutter
  • Studying, reading
  • Journaling
  • Arts and crafts
  • Social: reach out via phone, video, social media, even a walk in your neighborhood

Coping with Kids at Home

First, some fun. Enter a video dancing to “We Can Make It,” also known as “The Pandemic Family Dance Song Music Video from Dr. Don MacMannis

One area I keep hearing repeated is the need to keep structure or create it, with routines and chores. Kids doing chores is preparing them for success in life, learning to do things they don’t want to do.

Remedies based on COVID-19 autopsies

Forensic expert: First COVID-19 autopsy provides critical insight, remedies to protect the mucous balance of the respiratory system.

NOTE: Fact check remedies using www.snopes.com. Take note of distinctions in claims of “cure” versus boosting the immune system (still good).

  1. Drink hot liquids every 20 minutes (especially with lemon slices/juice)
  2. Gargle with antiseptic (vinegar, salt, lemon) at least 1 time a day
  3. Virus attaches to hair and clothes - wash clothes daily, shower or bathe immediately after entering home from outside, hang clothes in direct sunlight.
  4. Disinfect high frequency use surfaces, metallic surfaces especially
  5. Don’t smoke
  6. Wash hands for 20 seconds every 20 minutes
  7. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables
  8. Elevate Vitamin C and Zinc levels
  9. If you feel anything coming on in the throat, hit it hard. Virus stays there for 3-4 days before progressing to lungs.
