THE Emperor utterly destroyed the idols and images in Spain, except the idol in Andalusia, called Salamcadis. Cadis specifically refers to the place in which it is, while Salam is the Arabic word for God.
The Saracens say that Mohammed, whom they honour, built the idol in his name, while he still lived, and sealed it with a legion of devils according to his magic arts, and it is so strong what it cannot be broken.
If any Christian approached it, he was at immediate risk. But is any Saracen came to adore or pray to Mohammed, he returned unharmed.
If my chance a bird landed on it, it died.
There is an ancient stone at the shorefront, carved in the best Saracen way, wide and square at the bottom, tapering upwards to the height a crow would fly, upon which is a golden statue of a man, standing straight facing the south, and holding a key in his hand.
The Saracens say this key will fall to the ground in the year a future king of Gaul is born, who would in time subjugate the whole of Spain with a Christian army. As soon as that is seen, they will bury their jewels in the ground and flee.
