Membership Requirements

Scholarship – All students seeking admission to the Chaparral High School NHS must have a minimum academic GPA of 4.0 for at least one full year of high school course work. Invitations to apply are distributed based on this criteria. Member must work to maintain this set standard.

Service – All students seeking admission to the Chaparral High School NHS must have participated in a minimum of three separate service activities during high school prior to seeking admission. The total number of service hours must be at least 15 verifiable hours for the 2020 induction. These are activities from both inside and outside the school in which you, the student, participated for the betterment of your community. Members must complete a minimum of 15 verifiable service hours per semester.

Leadership – All students seeking admission to the Chaparral High School NHS must be able to demonstrate they are leaders in the school and/or community. Students must demonstrate their leadership by listing two or more verifiable roles or positions where they were either elected or appointed. These positions or roles may be held in the school, community, and/or workplace since starting high school. Members are encouraged to maintain leadership positions.

Character – All students seeking admission to the Chaparral High School NHS will have their names submitted to school and community authorities for evaluation before the selections are finalized. Discipline and attendance records will be checked. A student that has had issues in the past but is showing an upward trajectory of improvement is still a candidate for membership. Students will also need to have a teacher complete a recommendation form. As members, their character is held to a high standard. Any member found in violation of school and/or community laws and rules will be reprimended and go through a process of investigation.
