Chaparral High School's National Honor Society application process begins at the beginning of the school year. An application is obtained by invitation only based on meeting the scholarship criteria of maintaining an academically weighted GPA of a 4.0 for one year.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Service – All students seeking admission to the NHS must have participated in a minimum of three separate service activities during 9th-12th grade. The total number of service hours typically must be at least 25. Due to the pandemic, it is 15 hours for 2020. These are non-credit service activities inside and outside the school in which you, the student, participated for the betterment of your community. In no way are you to be compensated for your services.
Leadership – All students seeking admission to the NHS must be able to demonstrate they are leaders in the school and/or community. The students will list two or more elected or appointed leadership positions or roles that they have filled or held in the school, community, and/or workplace. These must be verifiable roles or positions by an adult supervisor other than family.
Character – All students seeking admission to the NHS will have their names submitted to school and community authorities for evaluation before the selections are finalized. Not following school and community rules and regulations may be grounds for disqualification. Discipline and attendance records will be checked to insure no rule infractions of the student code of conduct rules have occurred during the past year.
