The following photo was taken in the morning of 15 June 1994 in Tioman Island, Malaysia using a Nikon w35 Compact AFM camera.
It was a trip suggested and led by my CityU classmates Rocky, Tommy and a junior Wesley. We travelled from Singapore to Malaysia. Rocky and Wesley were still working in a Japanese computer consultancy company in Hong Kong back then.
The Resting Place of a Beautiful Dragon Princess
According to legend (photo of the entombment about the legend below), Tioman Island is the resting place of a beautiful dragon princess, Whilst flying from China to visit her prince in Singapore, this beautiful maiden stopped to seek solace in the crystal-clear waters of the South China Sea. Enraptured by the charms of the place, she decided to discontinue her journey. By taking the form of an island, she pledged to offer shelter and comfort to passing travelers.
Local mythology claims that the island is the embodiment of the mighty dragon Sri Gumom. The dragon was on his way to visit his sister Gunung Linga (Lingin Peak) but the great Sri Rama forbade the meeting and Sri Gumom was turned into a stone and fell into the deep sea where he now remains, frozen in eternity as this beautiful island with its distinctive topography.

In another version of the legend, it tells the origin of Seri Gumum who was a cursed princess that was sealed away in a Forbidden Garden built on the Lake. Many years later, a foreign prince called 'Putera Kemboja' arrived from afar and both fell in love. The princess eventually broke the seal containing her when she agreed to leave with the prince. As soon as they crossed the boundaries of the Forbidden Garden, Seri Gumum and Seri Kemboja immediately transformed into two Nāga. At the very moment, the Forbidden Garden was flooded, hidden forever at the bottom of Chini Lake.[9]
