No Rhyme or Reason

"(From Bad to Verse)"

Quotable Quote:

"There is a poet hidden in all of us,

Thankfully, he stays hidden in most"

--- Chaitanya Dabholkar

Lets get on with it…(Part 1)

If I die today, you may weep,

But tomorrow you will smile,

And the birds will chirp and worms will creep,

(All life is for a while)

-------x-------

Lets get on with it… (Part 2)

When you pass on (as you surely will),

As all are wont to do,

I shall move on (get out of here),

I shall pass on too.

--------x--------

Lets get on with it… (Part 3)

Let us form a circle, all of us,

Let us hold our hands,

Let us praise our fate and luck,

Then let us catch the bus.

--------x--------

In praise of the Flat earth society.

When I told them that the earth was flat,

They heeded not my warning,

And now that they have fallen off,

I shall be in mourning.

--------x-------

Death

When the end draws near, why is it,

That we wish to be immortal,

Knowing full well that immortality,

Is not for us mere mortals.

-------x-------

Instructions for poets

All poems should have not more than four lines,

The first to introduce,

The second and third bore one to tears,

The fourth line ends the muse.

------x-------

Hurry.

In haste we act, for we would choose,

To regret these acts in leisure,

Hurting foes and friends alike,

Seems to give us pleasure.

------x------

Life & Death

Life is but humdrum life,

And death is only death,

Why is it that we prefer the former,

With every rasping breath?

I fight for my survival,

With every rasping breath,

But know it’s a losing battle

I come to thee, O Death.

-------x-------

An alternative to family planning

Caring and compassion is not for me,

I would prefer to kill,

And if I stick to my chosen task,

The population will soon be nil.

-------x-------

What’s the hurry?

The road that leads from here to there,

Has been dug up by the men,

We have no choice but to stand and stare,

Waiting for the work to end.

-------x-------

No-win situation

Some are weak and some are tough,

And some are in between.

Those of us who brave the rough,

Often lose our sheen.

------x-------

The end of innocence.

Life calls out to the innocents,

Come, experience me in full,

You may lose your innocence,

But you wont remain a fool.

-------x-------

Ambition

I lie down in the meadow,

And stare up at the star,

One day I know I'll join it,

Even though it's far

I gaze out at the ocean,

And see the lands across,

One day I know I'll swim there,

Else I will gather moss

I am beckoned by the mountain,

"Why dont you set yourself free?"

Since I cant go there just as yet,

It must come to me.

--------x-------

Shakespeare

To breathe or not to breathe, that is the question,

To think or not to think, that is the question,

To communicate or not to communicate,

To be or not to be ?

-------x--------

For workaholics

When the day's work is done,

And all retire to bed,

Let us praise the Lord,

That we have some work ahead.

-------x-------

Freedom from fear

I ran towards the ocean,

I swam across the sea,

But no matter where I went,

I was never completely free.

I sold all my possessions,

And paid off all my debt,

I thought that free of worldly things,

I would be free of fret.

But my fear, it follows me,

Like a faithful pet,

Even as I cross mountains,

I’m not rid of it yet.

--------x-------

Reflections

All I know and all I feel,

And all that I possess,

All of it is transitory,

It’s sad (I must profess).

--------x-------

Sunset

I was standing in the darkened doorway,

With my head towards the setting sun,

And as I looked up at the endless blue-grey,

Was revealed the flash of the celestial gun.

I gazed at the blood-spattered sky,

Which a moment ere had been so dull,

And marveled at what I thought must be,

The sad yet wondrous death of the sun.

--------x-------

Cattle

I cannot withdraw from the field of battle,

I cannot lay down my arms,

Must fight till the very end (gasp),

(But should take care not to disturb the cattle).

‘Coz the cattle give us milk & cheese,

And beef and other stuff,

So let’s not disturb the cattle, please,

Or they’ll get into a huff.

--------x-------

The transitory nature of friendship.

Friends may come,

And friends may go,

And friends may once again return,

And once again turn -

To go, to and fro, to and fro,

Oh how humdrum.

--------x-------

Sleep

As I slept, I dreamt a dream,

I dreamt a dream of beauty rare,

And when I woke, I could scream,

On knowing it was just a dream.

Once more I slept, I dreamt that dream,

I dreamt that dream of beauty rare,

And when I woke, I almost cried,

For now I realized that I didn’t care.

--------x-------

Hero

Unsung heroes lie here today,

Beneath the sea of flies,

What was the cause that shot them down,

Wondered the vultures, standing by.

--------x-------

Writer’s block

I’ve heard that many writers develop writers block at some time or the other in their careers.

I perhaps am one of the few who developed it right at the very beginning,

thus eliminating the possibility of a career in writing, altogether.

--------x-------

Insanity

Who let the dogs out?

And for that matter, who shoved them back in again?

Possibly, had you known all about

that, you wouldn’t have gone insane.

------xxxx------

Time

So much time & so little to do,

I wonder if you’re free too?

“Free to…do what”, you say?

Free to pass the time away.

------xxxx------

Destiny

I do believe in destiny,

I quite believe in fate,

I believe we’ll all die some day,

So don’t be too late,

Or you may never get here at all.

So, before the earth ends,

And the heavens fall,

Fulfill your destiny,

And heed your inner call.

------xxxx------

The Criminal

I must arise and go now,

To prove that I’m no sinner,

I don’t know how this allegation arose,

But I do know I’ll be back for dinner.

For food is the most important thing,

And I do believe that it’s a sin,

To not eat a hearty meal,

All else is but a momentary fling.

------xxxx------

State of Affairs

Every moment,

And every thought,

And every action,

And every reaction

Is wrought with meaning,

Is fraught with danger,

Is full of intrigue,

Is filled with pathos,

Is an out-pouring…

…Of raw emotion, but usually

It’s all just plain boring.

------xxxx------

A new beginning

Can we leave it all behind?

Can we walk away?

Free from bondage, unshackle our mind?

I doubt. I think we’ll stay.

We can, but we won’t,

We should, but we don’t,

We can fly, but we don’t try,

We prefer the same old haunts.

------xxxx------

The Fallen Man

On the edge of town lives a man,

Of dark and dreary disposition,

Seldom does he interact with the locals,

(And never of his own volition.)

He does not seem to need a thing,

He is never known to smile,

It is said he once was the centre of things,

But now he’s alone, for miles and miles.

------xxxx------

All work and no play

Attack! He cried,

And the dog attacked,

Stay! He said, and it stayed,

But no matter much he tried,

His brains he racked,

But the dog, it never played.

------xxxx------

Book Closure

When all your work is over,

And the books are all closed,

When all is tallied and added up,

Leave! Don’t hover.

----xxxx-----

Cry Baby Cry

My Baby is a cutie-pie,

(But provided he doesn’t cry),

‘Cause when he does, it’s as if,

The world’s coming to an end. Sigh!

----xxxx-----

The Protector

Get thou behind me Satan!

Begone, you devilish chap!

'Coz if you don't, I'll tell my wife,

And she'll give you one tight slap.

So, don't tempt me with your whiskey,

Or lure me with your rum,

'Coz if I tell my wife of this,

She'll slap you on your bum.

----xxxx-----

Darkness

When the lights go out, do not fret,

And do not stumble o'er your pet,

Don't find the light or let it glow,

'Stead gaze at the stars, and take it slow.

And when the grey clouds cover those,

Let out a sigh, that's how it goes.

The State of the Economy

The banker and the accountant, were worried to the core

They had a lot to talk about, when they met in Singapore,

The state of the economy wasn't all that great,

They talked about inflation and the reverse repo rate.

Things got quite heated, as they sipped upon their wine,

'We'll need to discuss this some more, even till the end of time'
