對學生之期望:
專題生 (Undergrad):
研究深度與廣度將根據學生狀態而定,目標與過程應包含: 「歸納與紀錄研究之成果」 、「內部報告」。 優秀同學更應積極參與「國際(國內)研討會」。 這對未來找工作、面試、甄試等將帶來正面效果,而全力支持有用心與努力之學生是我的責任。 對專題生而言,學習與研究經驗的價值大於實質研究成果之展現。
Topics are subjected to one's interests and potentials, through which, despite the level of contributions, students should be able to sum-up the research results and present it publicly, either in an international (domestic) conference and/or on campus. The training's purposed to benefit students' skills for future jobs and presentations. It's my responsibility to support the students, especially those who have demonstrated endeavors. Personal-wise, exposure to research experience is more important than the results achieved.
碩士生 (M.S.):
一般而言,碩士畢業生將具備良好的研究實力、論文判讀/撰寫能力、專業簡報技巧、以及基本的程式語言邏輯。 應參與、歷經一場「國際、國內研討會」發表其論文成果。 針對學生「個人傾向」之偏好,得一起制訂訓練細節暨相關研究課題。 研究課題之目的在於幫助學生練習以上專業能力,我們也將給予充足的教育訓練與支援。「學術能力導向」之學生 (未來教授或研究人員之養成),得一起調整課題以爭取突出表現。 建議學生: 應預先準備面對未來之任何可能性,提早做好規劃 -- 或直接選擇辛苦且具挑戰之道路,行走人生的上坡; 爭取未來更多的「生涯選擇權」。 全力支持用心與努力之學生是我的責任,我鼓勵學生思考提早畢業之概念或者思考利用碩二之時間出國交換與移地學習等方案。
Depending on one's career anticipation, M.S. graduated should possess decent understanding of research methodology (experiment or simulation), thesis reviewing/writing competency, presentation skill, and some programming knowledge. The research topics shall be designed so as to practice the above-mentioned core-skills. For research-oriented students, who wish to pursue Ph.D or become a professor/researcher, we will reinforce the ability so the student can be outstanding among the others. It is recommended that the students have taken to getting prepared in advance, leaving wider options in the future.
博士生 (Ph.D./Doctorate):
我認為: 「博士學位之訓練」 約3-4年,得有效率走完過程 (承襲我博班指導教授之思維)。 過長的時間對指導老師與學生而言並非最佳解。 我期待與學生一起克服挑戰 (as-a-team),取得雙贏與榮譽。 博士學位的取得其實並非想像般困難,本質上僅在實行一套完整且具科學依據之研究方法 (入門階段) 去推進知識的演進。 完成「博士訓練」後,學生進入下一個舞臺應當具備頂級、寬廣與國際化的「競爭力」- 應善用經歷而非依賴學歷。
I anticipate that, 3-4 years stay is the average or better say it is the maximum for getting a PhD. After that, it becomes less effective/productive for both sides. I plan to co-work with the students the best I could, leading to the best achievements together. It is anticipated that students shall possess the essential skills to excel in: academic, industry, and/or become the owner of an industry equipped with the academic competency. The key is: to develop one's career path, rather than finding a job just for living. Let's do our best to accomplish the Ph.D together, with efficiency. Simply, a Ph.D. training is only meant to provide one with a scientific method for advancing knowledge of our world.
注: 「台灣碩士學歷」的價值與C/P值 >> 「美國碩士學歷」。 關鍵在於: 如何有效的利用台灣的碩士訓練為自己的學經歷加分。 大地工程領域之研究仍有許多機會與前景待開發。
注: 22歲大學畢業 + 2年碩士 (延續成果至博士階段) + 3年博士訓練 = 27歲 新科博士。 其實有許多 27-29歲即取得博士學位之學人,並非需 5-7年礦日廢時。 如果學生打算花費5-7年去取得博士學位,我則會建議此學生必須縮短時間強化效率。 (理工為例)
