Overview of Authors Festival
What is the Cedar Falls Authors Festival all about?
It came about when Rosemary Beach and Barbara Lounsberry began chatting over coffee about the rich literary heritage of our community. A vision was born: what if we gathered a group of people representing many organizations around the community and planned a series of events to celebrate our Cedar Falls authors, past and present? A core group met in the fall of 2016 and soon more than 20 organizations expressed an interest in participating.
We came together to celebrate the work of Bess Streeter Aldrich, Ruth Suckow, James Hearst, Nancy Price, and Robert James Waller. We wanted to educate the community, and found a common goal, even as we started to hear about other local authors. However, something special has happened: organizations are collaborating to plan programs, and people are working together who had not partnered before. We are excited to present our Festival Events and hope you will participate. Finally, we hope to compile information from an online survey to develop the Directory of Cedar Falls Authors.
Attached below you will find a Power Point Presentation that gives an overview of our Festival, lists our authors, and highlights some of the events coming up between May and October 2017. This is a presentation given to the UNI Emeritus Faculty at the Clarion Inn on April 5, 2017. I also added a simple two-page flyer that highlights the power point.
