E-Board Descriptions

Here is a list of the E-board positions and the responsibilities that fall under each one. If you have any questions, this will help you to find the correct person to ask. Although, all of us are here to help you and will answer any questions you have.

Society for Human Resource Management

Student Chapter No. 5086 at Central Michigan University

Officer Description

President: Provides leadership to the executive board and general members of the chapter; maintains direction of the chapter to reach its goals; facilitates executive board and general meetings; creates meeting agendas; directs nominations and elections of the executive board; establishes the fall and spring semester schedules; schedules speakers/panels/workshops for chapter professional development; solicits feedback from members after each speaker/panel/workshop; coordinates the resume book CDs for distribution; serves as liaison to the national SHRM office; works with MMHRA to coordinate activities; manages the Student Life REGGIE system; meets regularly with chapter advisor(s); keeps record of chapter events, meetings, and membership.

Vice President: Coordinates state and regional HR Games competitions; coordinates professional and student mentor programs; manages chapter e-mail account; maintains and updates master legacy notes for executive board; coordinates succession plan each semester; facilitates executive board and general meetings in the absence of the president; records minutes at meetings in the absence of the secretary; meets regularly with chapter advisor(s); any other assigned tasks.

Treasurer: Works with the executive board to set a budget for each semester; maintains a working balance sheet in Microsoft Excel of the chapter account; submits a print-out of the balance sheet when requested by the president or advisor; writes and endorses checks; collects and retains all receipts; issues reimbursements; collects membership dues, trip fees, fundraising profits, and all other monetary deposits; retains copies of national and local membership applications; purchases gifts for speakers/panels/graduating seniors; attends weekly Student Advisory Council meetings; any other assigned tasks.

Secretary: Assembles executive board binders and materials prior to the start of each semester; records minutes at both executive board and general meetings; forwards minutes to SHRM e-mail account for distribution; collects copies of local and national member applications; takes members’ attendance at meetings and shares with active membership chair to track active membership roster; obtains a copy of the Chapter Merit Award application at beginning of school year and advises executive board members on which activities to plan for our chapter to receive points; keeps documentation of each event that counts for points toward the Chapter Merit Award; finalizes the Chapter Merit Award application and attachments before the spring semester deadline and sends into SHRM National; any other tasks assigned.

Publicity Chair: Plans and executes all recruiting events, such as MainStage and Major/Minor Night; promotes SHRM in general business, management, and HR classes; coordinates volunteers to help with recruiting events; works with CBA and other CMU sources to advertise SHRM meetings and events; designs and hangs flyers throughout Grawn Hall; designs and orders t-shirts; maintains and updates picture board and recruitment materials each semester; writes “The Grapevine” monthly newsletter; takes pictures with camera at meetings and events; records semester and year accomplishments by means of a scrapbook or slideshow; creates and updates the “New Member Packet” each semester; manages SHRM group on Facebook; books classrooms in Grawn for executive board and general meetings; any other tasks assigned.

Active Membership Chair: Manages active membership roster; coordinates all social and fundraising

activities (minimum of three each per semester); sets up fundraising and social activities with external sites;

takes attendance at all events; updates members of their active member status regularly; coordinates senior send-off

event at the end of each semester; plans the year-end banquet; provides food for events when needed; any other tasks

assigned.

External Events Coordinator: Plans fall and spring trips; sets up company/university visits; coordinates student and

professional conferences; arranges all accommodations for trips/visits including hotels, transportation, meals, and

registration; attends weekly Student Advisory Council meetings; writes and presents Student Advisory Council

proposals for external events funding; serves as chapter liaison to other SHRM college chapters; any other tasks

assigned.

Philanthropy Chair: Coordinates all volunteer activities; communicates between chapter and external sites; take attendance at all volunteer events; assists in coordination of senior send-off banquet at the end of the semester; provide support to Active Membership Chair; any other tasks assigned.

Recruitment Chair: Coordinate all recruitment activities. Responsible for social media aspects such as Twitter. Continually updating members on career opportunities. Coordinates with other chairs to make sure they are able to recruit new members at different events.
