Introduction

This website describes a very simple idea that I have found to have far-reaching personal benefits. Described here is an approach to writing that has been developed in response to a particular personal need. That need was for a writing system that would allow me to write more easily and effectively despite the fact that I have dyslexia.

It is not, as many seem to think, spelling that is the main problem for those of us with dyslexia. While spelling can certainly be a problem, these days using a word processor with a spell-checker can get around this problem. It is now possible to spot misspelt words immediately and to respond accordingly. Sometimes the computer will even make corrections automatically without you noticing. The main problem I find - and what computers cannot correct - is writing things in the right order and remembering to write everything that needs to be written when one should. Cell-writing is a non-linear way of writing that allows written material to be easily re-ordered and added. If you already have a spreadsheet application, it requires no special or additional software. This website is NOT offering anything for sale. It is offering a practical idea for FREE.

The approach to writing described here was that used to write the text for this site. Therefore, what you have before you is a tangible example of what it advocates. Furthermore, the text you are reading should appear no different from any other piece of writing of this kind. While the text has gone through the usual finishing processes aimed at making the end product look good, it was how the written content was put together in the early stages of this site's construction that was different.

Thus, this is a site about writing in a different way. What I describe is a way of handling written content in a non-linear way and eventually coming to think about that content non-linearly too. The basic idea of cell-writing is very simple. However, the ramifications and benefits that result can be considerable. Indeed, I believe, disproportionately so.
