Mrs. Alaina Garza

Alaina Garza is the teacher sponsor for CORES Club. She has taught at Clear Brook for 12 years, specializing in life sciences. She currently teaches AP Biology and AP Capstone Research, as well as sponsoring the Clear Brook Science and Engineering Fair, UIL Science, and working alongside others to sponsor TEDxClearBrookHighSchool for two years running. Mrs. Garza is also the mother of two children, Elwood and Lily, who share her passion for STEM. Mrs. Garza’s students are deeply impacted by her passion and true dedication to teaching.

Syamantak Payra

Number of weeks volunteered: 20Syamantak loves science. So much so, in fact, that he created this club just to spread the magic. He has a passion for helping people, especially through teaching. In the summers, he can often be found in libraries across the Houston area doing spelling bee workshops based on his experiences competing at the National Spelling Bee. He is an avid participant in science and math competitions, and this was his second year competing at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) and winning numerous awards, including the prestigious Intel Foundation Young Scientist Award, one of the top three awards in the entire fair. At Clear Brook, Syamantak is also the President of the Chinese Club and a Historian for both the Debate team and the National Honor Society. When he's not reading about cars or tinkering with electronics, Syamantak is probably taking pictures of flowers or watching videos of cute animals.
