Here is the deal. Sprint (also Boost that was riding on Sprint's network) was the only available cell phone service provider at Causey Estates for many many years. It was a spotty service at best. But it was still somewhat available. We loved it.
This Spirit/Boost tower was located at Powder Mountain Ski Resort. But then Sprint (before T-Mobile bought them), got into financial trouble. They sold this Sprint tower to AT&T. This tower is not a money maker even today. There are few customers on it, (we, Causey are nothing) to offset this cost it takes to maintain and run this tower. This is why we have no Sprint/T-Mobile.
But now thankfully, we have the old Sprint tower running AT&T's spotty service that we enjoy. The reason AT&T bought this tower is, it was for sale and because Snowbasin was hosting the 2002 winter Olympic game. And Verizon was the cell phone provider for the 2002 Olympic games. So Verizon had to stepup their game to make sure Snowbasin had awesome Olympic cell phone service.
Now Verizon sunk a ton of money into cell and data services into the Snowbasin foot print area. Thus Causey got some first ever, spotty Verizon service at the Fire Station from Snowbasin's Verizon network.
Nether Verizon or AT&T are of direct line of site from Snowbasin or Powder mountain, to anywhere within Causey Estates.
We only get service from these towers because of what's called in the cell phone industry as reflections.
Reflections actually works better in bad weather and when there's snow on the ground, snowing or rain. So winter coverage is best.
Boyd Clayton a great Causey Lot owner (on his own dime I might add) installed a booster at the fire station. That give us a place to get pretty good Verizon cell service. AT&T is also available there too.
Then Verizon installed yet another new tower at Powder Mountain right next to the Old Sprint tower. "Now AT&T's tower", today.
Verizon and AT&T's towers hit Causey Estates with a spotty pattern through what was previously refereed too, as reflections. The signal strength and availability of both carriers is in constant change. Due to conditions of weather in the air, ground snow and leaves on trees. But with Verizon's we get spotty service from two towers, Snowbasin and Powder Mountain.
There you have it more then you ever wanted to know about a bunch of crap (cell service at Causey). Russell Kuck on Nov 28th 2021
