House of Newton

Isaac Newton lived from 1642-1727.  He worked in the field of Physics, which is the study of how the physical world works.  Physicists study forces of motion, gravity, electricity and magnetism, heat energy, chemical energy, and nuclear energy.

Isaac Newton used mathematics to understand motion.  He developed three laws of motion to explain how things move.  The first law of motion states that an object in motion will stay in motion and an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted on by an outside force.  The second law of motion states that a force action on an object is equal to the object's mass multiplied by its acceleration.  The third law of motion states that for every action force, there is an equal, but opposite, reaction force.  Newton also developed the idea of gravity.  The legend is that he was sitting under an apple tree when an apple fell to the ground.  This sparked his curiosity and he came up with the idea of gravity to explain his observation.  A fun fact about Newton is that he was knighted by Queen Anne in 1705 and is known as Sir Isaac Newton.

The mascot for the House of Newton is the newt.  The house color is green.  Wizards of the House of Newton are curious thinkers.  They enjoy solving problems by using principles of mathematics.
