Independent Researcher
As an independent researcher, I focus on the cultural and scientific history of the nineteenth century.
Drawing on a scientific education and a career in industry, where I worked in the fields of intellectual property and technology watch, I have chosen to apply this experience to rigorous historical research.
For several years, I have conducted investigations based on archival sources, nineteenth-century printed materials, and specialized collections. My work has resulted in the publication of three historical biographies and numerous scholarly articles. These publications are held in university libraries, cited in research bibliographies, and have been regularly presented at conferences organized by the Comité des travaux historiques et scientifiques (CTHS). I also give lectures aimed at disseminating knowledge on subjects that remain relatively unexplored by professional historians.
Research Areas
My work is structured around several complementary fields of research:
Nineteenth-century travel literature and the popularization of science, particularly through the publishing ventures directed by Édouard Charton, whose biography I co-authored with my husband.
Explorers and women explorers, with particular attention to the figure of Ida Pfeiffer, whose life and achievements I reassessed in a new biographical study.
Travelling engineers and the transfer of technology, especially French Central School engineers working abroad and Franco-Japanese exchanges during the Meiji era.
Alpine topography and the history of the French Alpine Club and the Touring Club, through the study of the work of engineer Henri Vallot in the Mont Blanc massif and the publication of his biography.
Research Approach
Although these subjects cover a wide range of themes, they are united by a common concern: the study of intellectual, technical, and cultural exchanges in the nineteenth century. My research seeks to highlight individuals who have often been overlooked and to restore their role in the processes of modernization, the dissemination of knowledge, and the exploration and understanding of the world.
