Implementation of Urban Data Farming mechanisms in cities, using web 2.0 technologies and mobile apps to augment the emergent farming capabilities of municipalities, using a Complex Adaptive System approach.
Active research areas include:
- Citizen Technologies: Sensors, AutoBus, Urban Simtable, Autonomous Agent Modeling
- Urban and Environmental Information Systems: City Knowledge Platform and Intelligent Urban Agents
- Crowd- sourcing, -sensing and -funding: Digital Earth Watch, CitizenPipe, Public Art App, VeniceNoise
I have worked also on Historical knowledge primarily with our Emergent Transcriptions Project
Research activities in Urban Knowledge Management are conducted by undergraduate and graduate students from WPI and other institutions, through City Lab, which I founded in 2003. The lab supports research that directly benefits WPI project centers or WPI grants. City lab also sponsors summer internships in Venice and Santa Fe for meritorious students and practitioners.
