Who We Are

All About Us

Music Mentors is a volunteer program of Carlmont High School instrumental music students serving 4th and 5th grade music students in the Belmont Redwood Shores School District.  Each elementary school has high school mentors come after school one day a week to supervise the young students as they practice their musical instruments.  This program supplements the district music teachers' lessons.
Alan Sarver started Music Mentors in 2003 to bolster the elementary music program in the Belmont Redwood Shores School District, when budget cuts reduced the hours of the district music teachers.  Alan recruited Carlmont High School instrumental music students to volunteer their time to provide after-school supervision of the elementary students' music practice.  Now, students who were 4th graders in the program are returning the favor as mentors when they reach high school.
