*Why can’t I view Drive files with my non-Google account?

If you use Google Drive at work or school, and you try to view or share a Drive file, you might see an error message that says your organization only allows sharing with Google accounts. This happens when you try to view or share a file using a non-Google account, such as barnabas.baxter@aol.com.

If you see this error message, you can ask access these resources by signing into your Gmail account. OR if you don't have a Gmail account or don't wish to create one, you can sign up for a Google account using your regular email address. To get started, follow this link: https://accounts.google.com/signupwithoutgmail

Google accounts don’t have to use Gmail addresses. A Google account is simply a unified sign-in system that gives you access to Google products, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. You can associate any email address with a Google account.

So in the example above, Barnabas Baxter can associate his aol.com email with a Google account if he doesn’t want to sign up for Gmail. You could then view and share files with barnabas.baxter@aol.com.
