Why join?

By joining the listserv you are considered a member of the Career Coaches COP peer learning network. Listserv subscribers receive messages about upcoming meetings, trainings, jobs listings, volunteer opportunities, events, resources, and more. And as a member, you gain access to a wide network of coaches and other direct-service practitioners serving individuals in and aroundGreater Boston and beyond. All messages will start off with [CareerCoachesCOP] in the subject line.

What is a listserv?

A listserv is a program that allows subscribers to send emails to an entire mailing list. When you send an email to CareerCoachesCOP@googlegroups.com it will go to all the subscribers.Relatedly, when replying to an email sent through the listserv, please use the "Reply All" function carefully as your response will be sent to the entire listserv. The Career Coaches COP listserv is currently using Google Groups as our platform.

How do I join?

Email CareerCoachesCOP@googlegroups.com to request to join. Or, email one of the moderators (listed below) who can send you an invitation to join the group.

What if I want to join using a non-Gmail email address?

You can! Without a Gmail account, you can still send and receive messages as part of the listserv, you just won’t be able to log-in to the Google Group account page/shared inbox. Follow the steps below:

How do I post to the listserv and what can I post?

All posts on the listserv must have offer value to coaches/direct-service practitioners and/or the clients that are being served.

In order to post to the listserv, you need to join the listserv, (see instructions above) follow the community guidelines listed below, then send your message to CareerCoachesCOP@googlegroups.com

We value having an open and unrestricted community, so we do not censor or pre-screen postings. We do monitor feedback and respond to questionable and objectionable posts that violate the protocols posted below.

Please be considerate and respectful, adhere to our posting protocols, use the subject line to help others easily understand what your posting is about (e.g. “Job:”or “Event:”), and be wary of the power of “Reply All.”

Examples of appropriate posts:

• Professional development opportunities
• Job training classes for clients/students
• Job postings (for members of the listserv or their clients/students)
• Events, networking, and professional development opportunities
• Volunteer and internship opportunities
• Information requests (e.g. referrals for clients, mentoring, venue recommendations)
• In-kind donations available or needed

Not appropriate for the listserv:

• Discrimination or defamation of any kind. Disregard for this policy will result in immediate removal from the listserv
• Resume postings
• Unnecessary replies to the entire listserv ("Reply All")
• SPAM - if your email address is hacked we will remove your email from the listserv

Violators of the list protocols will be warned by a moderator of the listserv. Repeat offenses are grounds for removal from the list.

Help! My inbox is full of too much great content from the Career Coaches COP Listserv! How do I manage it?

Create a separate folder for [CareerCoachesCOP] emails in your inbox and set up an email filter so that your email program automatically places incoming listserv emails into that folder.

Filters are easy to set up – just consult your email program’s "Help" section and set your filter to move anything with recipient CareerCoachesCOP@googlegroups.com into your Career Coaches COP folder. Once you do this, you can go in and browse listserv emails at your leisure, rather than feeling that your inbox is inundated.

There are three ways to receive emails on the listserv: Standard, Abridged and Digest.

• Standard means that you receive the individual mail messages as they are sent. You will receive a lot of email but you will not miss out on any time-sensitive events or opportunities.
• Abridged means you will receive one summary email of new activity per day, with links to each message.
• Digest means instead of receiving individual mail messages, you will receive up to 25 full new messages in a single email.

The default for all newly added members is Standard.

(Please note: the skillworks.boston@gmail.com email account isn’t closely monitored, so your best and quickest bet is to reach out to Kaitlyn or Martha)

Does the listserv have an archive?

Not exactly. If the email address you are using is Gmail-based, you can access the Career Coaches COP inbox at https://groups.google.com/d/forum/careercoachescop

However, if you are using Outlook or another email server, we do not yet have the capability to offer an archive. If you missed something and can’t find it in your inbox, please contact the listserv’s moderators (either Martha or Kaitlyn) who can find what you’re looking for and forward it to you.

Why do the listserv emails keep going in my SPAM/Junk folder?

This is a common issue! Please add CareerCoachesCOP@googlegroups.com to your contacts.

I want to unsubscribe!

There are multiple ways to unsubscribe from the listserv.

1. Visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. This link is also found at the bottom of every email sent through our listserv.
2. Send an email to any of the following with the subject line: Unsubscribe from CareerCoaches COP listserv skillworks.boston@gmail.com, Kaitlyn.bean@tbf.org, Martha@oeschconsulting.com

We'll miss you, but understand inbox overload. There are other ways to stay up-to-date with the Career Coaches COP network, including following Skillworks on Twitter, ‘liking’ us on Facebook,signing up for our (much less frequent) newsletter, and visiting the Career Coaches COP website, where we post resources, maintain a calendar of events and share other helpful links!
