WHAT MATTERS
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN: Since Council adopted this plan in 2010 many changes to existing ordinances have been made to bring us in line with the vision expressed in the plan. Hundreds of citizens gave their time and expertise to create this Community Compass as "a vision statement that articulates the type of community we want Clemmons to become in the future". Through implementation of this plan, which our citizen envisioned, we have been able to add roads, stoplights, roundabouts and sidewalks giving residents more driving choices. This plan is working well and is updated as needed.
LIBRARY: Our new Library is now open and better than ever. Libraries are no longer just repositories for books but now are centers for free access to learning, technology and information. We want our library to reflect our community and meet the needs of our residents.
BUSINESS: Clemmons can't survive, nor would we want to, without a vibrant business community. Business and the taxes they pay allow us to provide high quality services to our residential community. As development occurs North of I-40, more pressure to compete will be put on the businesses South of I-40. This is why a committee of stakeholders representing Clemmons businesses worked with the Village Planner several years ago to produce the Lewisville-Clemmons Rd. Corridor Overlay District. The purpose is to provide choices in trip destination for the motoring public, the closing of some driveways and providing some cross access opportunities. The plan also establishes high standards for buildings, landscaping and street trees, creating a safe pedestrian network and adding new directional signage.
The Idols Rd. extension, first talked about in 1995, is complete now and is providing some traffic relief for L-C Rd. and an opportunity for us to expand our tax base with light industry.
NEIGHBORHOODS: Our neighborhood are the heart and soul of Clemmons. My husband and I have been active members of our neighborhood Home Owners Association since we moved here in 1984. During my time in office Council approved developments providing a range of housing choices to appeal to all ages and stages of life. I encourage more HOAs to send representatives to Council meetings to share their thoughts and learn about Village finances and planning efforts.
COMMUNICATION: During my time in office we hired a Marketing/Communications Director allowed us to update our web site, create a Facebook page and provide citizens with easily assessable, timely information concerning activities, road closures, changes in Waste Management scheduling, dangerous weather conditions and other information that could impact your daily life
FINANCE: Our tax cap is 15 cents for $100 valuation. Why is this important? It keeps your elected officials vigilant when it comes to spending taxpayer money.
Clemmons maintains one of the lowest tax rates and strongest fund balances in North Carolina, which means more money in your pocket. While maintaining this conservative approach and incurring NO DEBT, we have added services and staff,
including:
Sheriff's deputies for protection
Free family-friendly community events
Enhanced options for communicating with the Village staff, including Facebook and website
New housing choices
A beautiful new library
Looking to the future, Council will have to make hard choices about housing, business development, storm water and environmental issues. I have the experience and proven ability to make sound choices that will enhance our already exceptional quality of life.
