Byer Piano Service
Tuning & Repairs
"Complete piano care since 1980"
© Jay Byer 1997
Jay Byer started working on pianos as a work study job while a student at Berklee College of Music. After graduating from Berklee in 1980 he worked as a sub-contractor for Allston Piano, a used piano store in Allston Massachusetts specializing in buying, selling, and renting pianos. There he learned about many different kinds of pianos, tuning, repairing, and reconditioning the instruments in preparation for either sale or rental. He also began building his own client list of tuning customers. In 1982 Jay relocated my business to Milford Massachusetts, and again in 1988 to our current location in Mendon, Massachusetts.
In 2014 Jay's son David joined the business. Currently David does all of the work while Jay handles the business tasks. David has carried on the high expectations of our customers.
The majority of our business consists of tuning and repairs in customer’s homes. We service most of Central and Eastern Massachusetts, and Northern Rhode Island. We also service several colleges and local school districts. We will travel to your location, tune your piano, do any necessary repairs, and leave you with a fine sounding and functioning instrument. Most of the time we need one to two weeks advance time for appointments. Certain times of the year it can be less, (usually in the summer) or more during the holiday season between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Our workshop is located in Mendon, Massachusetts. We do any repairs, regulations, and rebuilding in this location. In the case of regulations, or major repairs, We will move whatever part of your piano requires repairs, do the necessary work, and return it to you. Rebuilding requires the entire piano to be moved to our shop, which would be done by a certified piano mover.
