Welcome

The Science Teachers Association of New York State is a professional organization founded in 1896 to promote excellence in science education in New York State.

STANYS works with educators and communities to provide opportunities for all students to participate in and learn science.  We at STANYS Westchester are working to promote professional development for Westchester and Bronx counties.

We are always looking for new people to join us.  Reach out to us or come to one of our monthly meetings.

Please join us as we promote ways to make your progression to teaching the new NYSSLS curriculum accessible.

Focus question: How do you get your students to REALLY talk about their ideas and progress in problem-solving?

Do you know that in a recent study, students exhibited non-thinking student behaviors approximately 80% of the entire class time?

How do you flip that around so that students are driving the thinking and talking?

Maria Walsh-STANYS, Physics SAR, will be showing you fact-based techniques to get your students up and talking about your science subject. This will be geared for 6-12 science teachers. The presentation is based on the book by Peter Liljedahl, "Building Thinking Classrooms"

There will be an opportunity to win a free set of classroom whiteboards that will be featured in the presentation.

Let us know that you're coming.
