* Provide a safe environment and one that promotes safe practice on behalf of a child’s well-being;
* Offer adequate play, private spaces, and age-appropriate equipment;
* Ensure that supervision is provided for all indoor and outdoor activities;
* Develop a collaborative partnership with parents and work together on common goals for a child;
* Communicate with parents about their child’s daily experiences in a positive and respectful manner;
* Maintain necessary confidential records concerning children in care;
* Obtain and maintain liability insurance for the children, home, and vehicle.
* Bring any and all complaints, concerns, or problems first and directly to us;
* Prepare the child for their child care experience (this can be done with our assistance);
* Inform us of any changes in address, phone, employment, or emergency information;
* Inform us of any changes in care hours/days needed, or drop-off and pick-up times;
* Supply any special food, clothing, or infant equipment and supplies that we agree upon;
* Inform us of any illness or contagious disease that might affect the other child care children or members of our family;
* Respect the privacy and need for confidentiality of children in care and their family;
* Respect the fact that we are operating a business, and that we have a right to be paid on the agreed-upon date;
* Respect the caregiver’s home, family, property, privacy, culture, and religion;
* Respect the fact that we also have a family, and pick up their child at the agreed-upon time;
* Provide us with the name of an emergency backup contact in the event that their child becomes ill, or if the parent/guardian has an emergency that prevents them from picking their child up at the scheduled time;
* Provide us with authorization to get emergency medical care for their child if we can’t reach the parent or the emergency backup. (Parents should have signed the emergency medical authorization form. This must be signed by the custodial parent/guardian);
* Ensure that their child is brought to the family child care well-rested, well-fed, healthy, and clean;
* Ensure that the confidentiality of the family childcare home is maintained.
If we suspect child abuse, we will:
* Listen carefully to what the child says;
* Be attentive to his or her behaviour;
* Show our concern;
* Support the child;
* Ask if anything is the matter, but do not insist on an answer;
* Let the child know that we are ready to listen at any time;
* Make note of anything that the child says or does that might indicate abuse, including physical signs of abuse such as bruises, and the date and reason we felt it might be abuse-related;
* Call the local Community Care Facility Licensing;
If a child tells us about child abuse, we will:
* Talk to the child in private;
* Listen to the child;
* Remain calm, and do not overreact;
* Reassure the child;
* Call for assistance immediately;
* Call the local child protection agency or a similar social service agency in our community, or call the Ministry of Children and Family Development;
* Report to Community Care Facility Licensing;
* Keep the whole matter confidential.
