Hiking Opportunity

Mr. DeVito and Mr. Seeman will lead a 5-mile hike with map and compass throughout the borough of Forest Hills. This hike will fulfill requirement 3b for second class. We will meet at the Forest Hills Presbyterian church on Sunday, August 5 at 8:00 a.m. We should finish the hike around 11:00 a.m. Scouts should wear comfortable hiking clothes and shoes. Scouts should bring a compass if they have one; maps will be provided. Be on time; we plan to leave shortly after 8:00 a.m. after we do map orientation. It is highly recommended that those who need to still do this requirement attend this opportunity.

Annual Planning Meeting

The annual program planning meeting will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the FHPC, from 9 am until Noon. All scouts, who are interested in sharing ideas for troop activities, should plan on attending.

Upcoming Troop Committee Meetings:

The next Troop Committee meeting will be August 5th at 7:30pm at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church. All adults are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Upcoming Merit Badge Universities

There are two upcoming Merit Badge Universities in our area. These are not "Troop Sponsored" event. If you are interested, you are responsible for registration, payment and transportation to/from the event. Please see the links below for more details. If you are interested it is recommended you register as soon as possible as the classes tend to fill up quickly.

Merit Badge University at Waynesburg University -> Saturday, November 3rd

MERIT BADGE AT ROSEDALE TECHNICAL COLLEGE -> Saturday, October 20th

Book Donation Request

Chris Coohill and his dad are looking for help with a community service project currently being done by their Rotary Club (Pittsburgh East).

They are putting Little Free Libraries in Pittsburgh neighborhoods that don't have them. So far it's going well, but they need more books. They are looking for donation of books to stock the Little Free Libraries, especially those related to the building trades (carpentry, masonry, architecture) and kids' books.

Mr. Coohill is at the snack table every week, if you have any books to donate please bring them to a meeting and give them to him.

August Camping Trip

August’s Camp Out will be a trip to Conneaut Ohio to watch a reenactments of various battles including the D –Day landing of Omaha Beach and tent camp out at nearby Evergreen Lake Campground. Spectators have an excellent and unobstructed view of the battlefield along Lake Erie’s shoreline. There are re-enactors who come ashore via boats and they have aircraft flying as well. There are re-creations of the camps as well as real military hardware on display. Event website - http://www.ddayohio.us. On Thursday evening, August 16th, scouts will travel to Evergreen Lake Campground at Conneaut, OH to set up camp. Evergreen Lake has a fishing pond, swimming pond, mini-golf, and other amenities for scout use while in camp. Pack accordingly. On Friday and Saturday, we will have breakfast in camp. Then we will travel to the event returning to camp in time for dinner. After breakfast in camp on Sunday ,August 19th, we return home arriving around noon. Permission slip was due July 31st.

If you would like to purchase Class B shirts please e-mail Mireille Courtright at Mireille.courtright@gmail.com with the number and size request. T-shirts are $15.00 for Youth L, Adult S-XL $20.00 2Xl and larger. She will make arrangements to pick up payments and deliver the t-shirts with you.
