REMINDERS
*The scouts should be building their cars...not the parents! Lions should be getting the most help with the amount of help decreasing each year as they get older and are able to do more of the work themselves. There is a slot to sign up for a Parent's race on the sign up should you have the need to build a car yourself. Jimmy is looking for some dad competition. This race will be held right after the finals.
*No pre-made store bought cars may be used. The whole concept of the race is building your car. These cars will be disqualified.
*You must make a new car EACH YEAR. You will be disqualified if you are using the same car as previously used. We do take pictures of the cars to put up on the projector, so please be honest!
*The Pit Crew reserves the right to inspect any cars to see if they were used previously or are a pre-made car. They have the final decision on if the car will race or be disqualified.
*Only Pit Crew members are allowed behind the roped off area.
*The maximum weight for each car is 5 ounces. They will be weighed in on race day. Once you have weighed in and turned your car into the impound lot, it may not be taken back out.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Please reach out to Jen Smith to volunteer. More hands make light work.
TEST AND TUNE: We will have a test and tune opportunity on Friday evening from 7-8 PM if you want to come by the church and take your car for a test run.
"Be Fast... or Look Good Trying"
The Pinewood Derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with help from their families. Then they race the cars in competition. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a track. Every boy can design and build his own "grand prix" car to enter in the race.
The Derby is about doing one's best and having fun, so all child participants will be recognized with Pinewood patches. The fastest cars will be awarded performance-based trophies, as will the cars judged as exceptional in the following categories:
Most Creative – The most artistically unique vehicle, regardless of performance.
Best Cub Spirit – The car that best Exhibits Cub Scout Spirit!
Best Workmanship – The most attractive car that was built completely by the Cub (not the parent or Akela).
Best Engineered – The car that shows the best use of engineering principles and the most design foresight in an attempt to go fast.
Most Innovative – The most fresh or unique idea or ideas that were intended to make the car faster. These ideas may or may not have worked well...
