This is the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts. What better way to celebrate then to participate in a National Jamboree with over 45,000 Boy Scouts, leaders and staff. This will all take place at Fort A.P. Hill near Bowling Green Virginia from July 26th through August 4th. Scouts from all 50 states, territories and foreign countries will have the opportunity to earn merit badges, see special exhibits, watch some great shows, participate in cool activities and so much more! Several Plano Boy Scout Troops have come together as one and become Troop 1644. To mark this special occasion, we will be wearing special patches on our uniform that tells everyone that we have participated in the National Jamboree. Along with the National Jamboree, we will be visiting New York City, and Washington D.C. One of the traditions at the upcoming Jamboree is trading patches. Every Boy Scout Council issues a special shoulder patch that represents something from the area where they are from. One of the most sought after patches come from the Marin County California Boy Scout troops which have a Star Wars theme thanks to George Lucas. We will be trading a patch that features the Plano Balloon Festival. This is my first National Jamboree and I can't wait to be a part of it.
