Bat walks

We recently held a bat walk in the Orchard as part of the B&NES Climate and Biodiversity Festival (2021). We've held bat walks in the Orchard area since May 2014 (photo), thanks to the generous guidance of local bat experts Jim and Martin from Ethos Environmental Planning.

Bath is a hotspot for bats, and the Orchard is part of a prime foraging corridor including nearby Osborne's Lane. In our bat walks, we use hi-tech bat detectors to pick up lots of 'clicks' from the bats echolocating as they fly around looking for insects to feed on. You can spot several bat-boxes in the Orchard, though bats also roost in crevices in the trees.

More information on our local bats can be found at the Bat Conservation Trust.
