Bath Rec owns the Orchard public open space and works with Friends of the Orchard on its management.
We are grateful to Ethos Environmental Planning for supporting the Orchard with our landscape management plan and noticeboard, help running bat walks, and more.
More Trees BANES got involved with our Orchard open space several years ago with planting some of our youngest apple trees, and have supported us in lots of ways since.
Future Weston is a new Community Association in our locality - find out more on their new website.
Would you like to volunteer to help keep Weston litter-free? A resident of the Lane, Chris Nicholson, runs a monthly litter pick on the first Saturday of every month, with all equipment provided. Just show up if you would like to be involved: meet-up is at 9.30 in the morning in front of the Moravian Church at the bottom of Lansdown Lane. It only takes an hour or so of your time, and makes a big impact. Kids are welcome to take part!
Bath Preservation Trust supported our campaign to protect Westbrook Woodland with a permanent Tree Preservation Order, and also helped to successfully defend Weston greenbelt from development during the B&NES Core Strategy review of 2013-2014. They manage nearby Beckford's Tower, and their website offers information on membership as well as other ways of supporting conservation of Bath's heritage.
The Orchard at Broadmoor Lane sits at the boundary of two B&NES Council Wards: Weston and Bathavon North. The West Brook divides Weston ward with Charlcombe Parish, which has its own parish council.
While visiting the Orchard you can catch sight of our local landmark Kelston Roundhill, which features in a 1960s folksong .
We are lucky to have the Bath Soft Cheese Co. nearby, whose cows pasture just beyond the Roundhill. Follow the link, where you can even buy their cheese! (Or simply walk 1hr from the Orchard up over the hill to their shop.)
Find out about the owls who live in the lane on Wildlife Conservationist Ian McGuire's website. Ian led an owl prowl for us in the lane in 2011, something we plan to repeat in the future.
