BRIDGNORTH PROBUS CLUB
The purpose of the club is to provide a regular meeting for retired or mainly retired professional and businessmen.
CONSTITUTION
The Club is not a charitable organization and has no religious or political affiliations. The Club will normally meet for lunch on the second Tuesday of each month.
President and Vice-President
There shall be a President, elected for three years, and a Vice-President. They may attend committee meetings but have no voting rights.
Committee
The affairs of the Club shall be managed by a Committee elected annually, consisting of a Chairman and Vice-Chairman both elected for one year only, unless ill health, or other reason makes it necessary to continue for a second term, the Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary and one other member, may be re-elected. All nominations for office must be received by the Secretary before lst September. The immediate Past Chairman shall also serve for one year. Four members shall constitute a quorum and the Chairman shall have the casting vote. The committee shall have powers to co-opt further members.
General Meeting
There shall be an Annual General Meeting at the commencement of the Club year in October. Extraordinary General Meetings may be called by the Committee or by ten ordinary members by giving three weeks notice in writing to all members.
Bye-Laws
Membership
Membership is limited to fifty, excluding Honorary Members, and is open to those qualified aged fifty five years or over, resident within the former boundaries of the Pre-Unitary Bridgnorth District Council, or who have significant affiliation to Bridgnorth.
Candidates for election shall be proposed and seconded by two members of at least one year's standing and shall apply for election on a printed form obtainable from the Secretary.
Candidates should have attended at least one meeting of the Club as a guest and his application approved by the Committee before being submitted to the Club members.
Attendance
Apologies for non-attendance at a meeting should reach the Secretary at least three days before the meeting, otherwise payment for lunch will be required.
A Member may forfeit his membership if he fails to attend a minimum of eight meetings in any one Probus year commencing in October without leave of absence, or fails to attend three consecutive meetings without an apology. Sympathetic consideration will be given by the Committee for a request for leave of absence.
Guests
After prior consent by the Secretary, guests may be invited provided that the same guest does not attend more than three times in any one Probus year. Visitors are not permitted at the A.G.M.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions shall be determined at the A.G.M. and are then immediately due. New members joining during the second half of the Club year shall pay half the annual subscription.
Any member who is over 90 and has been a member for 5 years, will be automatically made a life member.
