Thinking Like a Scientist – Week 3 Syllabus, 9/24 – 9/28

Session 1

GOALS:

• Areas of Interaction – We’ll gain an understanding of areas of interaction and use the areas of interaction to look at the PCB pollution issue
• We’ll be able to add/subtract and multiply/divide with significant figures and scientific notation

· Video: Higgs Boson part 1 & discussion

· Go over homework (Scientific notation and significant figures worksheet)

· Introduction to One World (MYP assessment criteria)

· Discuss One World Essay assignment (PCBs / review article)

· Density of penny lab (discuss and separate pennies)

· HOMEWORK: Classification of matter worksheet.

Session 2

· Video: Higgs Boson part 2 & discussion

· Begin density of penny lab

· Discuss analyzing data

· HOMEWORK: PCB article

Session 3

· Miles per Gallon case study
