PhD supervision
PhD supervision
I am happy to supervise PhD students (Postgraduate researchers, PGRs) working on topics related to my own research, such as
Organizational dynamics of terrorism, civil war, or organized crime
Causes and consequences of terrorism, civil war, or organized crime
Most of my work is quantitative, so I am not the best person to supervise a qualitative-only dissertation. If you have some experience with quantitative approaches and are open to learning more, the University of Essex is a great place to be. Many of our PhD students take classes in the Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis.
The University of Essex does not offer much funding for PhD students other than some teaching assistant positions and some funding for conferences and training. If you do not have funding, I would suggest contacting me about jointly applying for funding through the SENSS program. The deadline is in December for starting in October the following year. You can look online for other funding sources as well.
If you are interested in doing a PhD with me, please email me your CV and a research proposal. The proposal should ideally have a research question, a literature review that demonstrates the place of the question in the literature, some hypotheses, and a research design plan. A proposal of a few pages is fine.
