Branford Boys Track and Field History
The Branford High School Boys Track team began in 1925 under the direction of John Knecht, a teacher and a volunteer coach. Knecht took a small group of athletes to the Housy Relays and they finished in second place. In 1931, Coach Knecht took Heb Williams, Tony Cinquanta, George Jackson, and Edward Duel to the relays and finished second of four teams. In 1959, Branford finished fifth at the Housy Relays in the first year as a program. In 1960, the Hornets returned and were once again fifth. The program had their first official team photo in the Milestone Yearbook in 1961 under the direction of Coach James McKeon with twenty-eight athletes. The team’s captains were Steve Federation, Ken Frankish, and Ken Kells.
