Awards-Mike won the 1965 State Sectionals in the disc. The Hornets won that meet.
Post High School-Ailes competed in track and field for one year at Brown University. He threw the hammer. He graduated in 1969 with a degree in economics.
Professional-Ailes worked in the computers field. After he retired, he became a certified math teacher. He currently teaches 7th grade math in Massachusetts.
Mike and his wife Melinda have two daughters named Caroline and Linae. They also have three grand children.
Notable-Mike Collier, an All Housatonic League pole-vaulter, convinced Mike to go out for the track team. Ailes also played football under Dom Cote and basketball under Stan Petela.

Post High School-Eric attended technical school where he earned his degree in the heating and cooling industry.
Professional-Eric owns a heating and cooling company, Je-Mar Mechinical. His daughter Jesse Marie is competing in the jumping and hurdling events at Wamogo High School. He currently lives in West Haven with his wife Lisa and his step son Jake.
Notable-Eric competed in Indoor and Outdoor Track for four seasons at BHS.

Professional-John works for Dolce International.
He lives in Georgia with his wife Judy and two children named John Jr. and Lauren.
Notable-A good athlete, Altermatt also ran cross-country and he played soccer and basketball. He joined the track team after racing his good friend Bob Reinhold on the grass field behind the high school. John out sprinted Bob and joined the squad.

Post High School-Tom earned a scholarship to run at Boston University under Coach William Smith. While at B.U he ran a 4:08 Mile, 1:50.1 in the 880 and a 48.8 440. He was All Yankee Conference. Bailey competed in five different European countries as a member of the Greater Boston Track Club. Later, Tom graduatd from Suffolk Law School.
Professional-Tom is an attorney in the Boston area.
He lives in Hanover with his wife and two children. Bailey has a son who is a good high school cross country runner.
Notable-Bailey set the Indoor Class record in the 1000 Yards at the Coast Guard Academy. He is currently coaching high school distance runner for both indoor and outdoor track.

Post High School-Jon ran track at Lafayette College and posted times of 4:11.1 (mile), 1:52 (880), and 49.9 (440). He is a member of the Lafayette College Hall of Fame and the Branford Sports Hall of Fame.
Professional-Barnes works in banking and finance and he lives in the Barrington Rhode Island.
Jon is married to his wife Patricia Sullivan who is an attorney in Providence. He has two daughters named Heather and Christy and two step sons.
Notable-Jon has run 17 marathons and he is a close friend of Bill Rodgers. Barnes has broken 2:30 a few times. Jon and Bill Rodgers attend the Melrose Games every year in New York City.
Jon was also All Housy in cross country. Barnes graduated from high school early so he attended Cheshire Academy for a year. While there, he ran on the 4*440 relay team that won at the Penn Relays.

Post High School-Borrelli participated in track and field at Southern Connecticut State University. He was an All American in the hammer throw. He also threw the shot and disc.
Notable-In high school, Borrelli played football (he was a captain), hockey and track. Mark and his best friend Richard Frink were both All State in the disc. Today, Frink is a physician in Madison.
Mark and his wife Donna resided in Branford with their children named Stephanie, Samatha, and Leah. Borrelli’s nephew Greg (graduated from Hamden in 2005) set the Hamden shot put record and was a member of the New Haven Register’s All Area Team.
Sadly Mark passed away in the summer of 2011.

Joe and Dave Johnson coached together for fifteen years. Fazzino’s All State throwers were: Mark Borrelli, Phil Dazuta, Phil DeLise, and Richard Frink.
Professional-Fazzino retired as an assistant principal from Branford High School in 2006. He currently works part time at the school and he occasionally returns to track practice to help the weight team.
Joe and his wife Michelina have two children named Anthony and Maria. They reside in Branford.
Notable-Fazzino also played soccer at Valley Regional. He is a proud member of the Italian American Club in Branford.

Post High School-Paul is the Manager of DeMusis Radiator. He is married to his wife Ellen and they have two daughters named Kaitlynn and Megan. Kaitlynn played field hockey and ran Indoor Track.
Notable-In high school, Paul ran Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track. In his senior year, the Hornets qualified as a team for the State Open in Cross Country. The other leading runners on the squad were Steve Walker, Rich Dahlin and Rich Biondi. Paul served as a co-captain with Steve Walker on that team.

Post High School-Ken served in the Air Force and he was stationed in Crete. He later graduated (G.I Bill of Rights) from the University of New Haven with a degree in Business.
Professional-Ken worked in Business Management all across the United States. He retired in 2005 and he lives in Colorado. Ken is married to his wife Kathy (who is originally from Cheshire) and they have two children named Kevin and Karin. Ken and Kathy have two grandchildren.
Notable-Ken played wide receiver on the 1958 State Championship team. While in high school, he also was the Sports Editor of the Milestone, was involved with the Student Council for three years and he was the Junior and Senior Class President.
Ken’s younger brother Scott ran Cross Country and did track. In his senior year, the fall of 1963, the Hornets finished fifth at the State Open. In track, Scott held the school records in the high jump and the pole vault.

Post High School-Scott attended Southern Connecticut for a year and he participated in track. He later graduated from Rowan University in New Jersey.
Professional-Frankish worked in management in Southern New Jersey. He still lives in the area with his wife Mary. The couple has a daughter and a grandchild.
Notable-In high school, he broke Don Bogucki’s record in the high jump and Paul Santa Barbara and Stan Kacynski’s record in the pole vault. He used a 12 foot steel-non bendable pole.
Scott also ran cross country and he was the fifth man behind Jon Barnes, Mike Space, Wes Mattern, and Craig Johnson. The team went undefeated in 1960, 1962, and 1963. They only lost one duel meet in four years to Notre Dame (28-27). That talented squad finished fifth at the State Open.

Professional-John worked in the banking field. He moved to Florida in 1974. John and his wife Debi have two daughters named Keri and Emily. They also have a grand daughter.
Notable-A tall (6’5) and gifted athlete, John played football, basketball and he ran track for all four years at Branford High School. His twin brother Bill was the 1965 Housatonic Champion in the high jump. Bill set the new Housatonic League record in 1965. Bill also ran on the 4*100 Relay team that set the school record.

Post High School-Jared is studying engineering at UCONN.
Notable-Jared led the Hornets in during his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, he scored 316 points.
As a senior, Jared went out for the soccer team. He started as the goalie and earned All League status. The Hornets finished second in the conference. This was the only year that he played soccer.

Post High School-Russ ran four years of cross country, indoor and outdoor track at Bates College. He ran a 4:17 Mile and he was All Maine (Maine Inter Collegiate Athletic Association) in cross country and All New England in the 4*800. His relay split was 1:56 and he was a track and cross country captain.
Professional-Russ works for Amec Enviromental Firm in Maine.
Russ and his wife Donna have four children. Russ is currently a track coach at a small private school in the Greater Portland area.
Notable-Russ earned a degree in biology from Bates and he did his PHD work at Duke University. He still enjoys running today.

Professional-Tom works in real estate in the Greater Hartford area. He and his wife have two sons who went to Hall High School.
Notable-At Branford High School, Tom also played football and basketball. He defeated legendary sprinter Pablo Franco of Hartford Public a few times in the 220 Yards.

Notable-D.J was a two time All Housatonic League basketball player and All New Haven County. He scored 42 points in a game his senior year. In track and field D.J finished in the top ten in the Decathlon his senior year.

Notable-Lange was the Class L Runner Up in the shot put in both Indoor and Outdoor track. At the 2008 Oronoque

The Hornets won both titles. He finished his senior season by scoring 18 points at the Class L Meet and he made All State in two events at the State Open.

Post High School-Cory is attending Holy Cross University. He is running Cross Country and Track. As a freshman, Cory ran 14:56 (5000 Meters) and 30:56 (10, 000 Meters).
Notable-Cory made All State in Cross Country and he is the Branford Supply Pond Course record holder. As a freshman, Loftis finished second at the Class MM Championship to help the Hornets win the title. As a senior, Cory placed at the Danbury Dream Invitational in the Mile.

Post High School-Chris graduated from the University of Delaware and is working on his P.H.D. He set the freshman pole vault record (14’6) and he is on the all time “Top Ten” performance list. He returns in the spring to help coach the high school vaulters.
Notable-At the 2005 Class MM Championship, Chris won the pole vault late in the meet, to help secure the first state championship in school history. The following week he won the State Open title.

Post High School-Wes ran cross country and track at the University of New Hampshire. After injuring his leg, he competed as a cyclist. In 1966, he raced at the National Cycling Championship, a one hundred mile race held in Illinois.
Professional-Mattern worked in the construction industry in Vermont and New Hampshire. Wes and his wife Janice have twelve children and eleven grand children. One of his daughters set the State of Vermont record in the javelin with a toss of 141 feet.
Notable-Mattern was second at the State Class Championship. He ran 10:11.6 for two miles. While in high school, he also ran indoor track and cross country. In cross country, Branford led by Jon Barnes, Mike Space and Mattern won the Housatonic Championship and went undefeated.

Post High School-Mike participated in track for a season at the University of Colorado where he threw 232’0 in the javelin. During that season, his team placed at the Drake Relays in the javelin. Mike graduated from St. Leo with a degree in management and accounting.
Professional-Mike owns a business in Ocala Florida. Mike and his wife Beth have five children named Justin, Megen, Joseph, Madison and Maren.
Notable-At BHS, Mike was a four year member of the swim team and he served as a captain.
As a junior, Coach Fazzino took Mike to the Coast Guard Academy to hear a coach from Finland speak on the European style of throwing. Mike practiced with a crowbar in his front yard. As a result, his best throw went from 140’0 as a junior to 210’10 as a senior. At the State Open, he had three throws over 200 feet and he pr’d on that day by seventeen feet.

Professional-O’Neill has worked as an IRS Agent for twenty years.
He lives in Virginia with his family.
Notable-Randy broke Peter Nickou’s school pole vault record of 11’6. He actually owned the pole vault pits that the team used. O’Neill also set the school record in the 180 Low Hurdles.

Professional-Ricky taught Industrial Arts. He also worked for a company that built destroyers for the Navy for twenty years.
O’Neill lives in Maine with his wife Debroah (a Registered Nurse) and their three children Patrick, Katherine, and Meghan.
Notable-Ricky ran track and cross country for four seasons. He was the sole track captain in 1968 and 1969.

Post High School-Chris graduated from Northeastern with a degree in engineering.
Notable-Chris was directly involved in two of the greatest moments in Branford track history. On April 22, 2003, Branford and Hand were engaged in an epic battle that would determine the Hammonasette Division Championship. Going into the last event (triple jump), the Hornets needed a first and a third to win the meet. Senior Rizaz Gadiwalla took third place. On the last jump of the meet, with a big crowd gathered, Chris jumped two feet further than his personal best to take first place. Branford won 76-74 to secure the first outdoor track championship in school history.
On May 18, 2004 the Hornets won the Hammonasset Divisional Meet by the score-127 Branford-125 Hand-121 East Haven. Chris was competing in great physical and emotional pain. A few weeks before the meet his father suddenly passed away. Physically, this was his last meet as he waited for surgery for a hernia. Again, the meet came down to the last event (pole vault). For the Hornets to win Chris, needed to clear 11’0. On his last attempt, he cleared the height in one of the most courageous performances in the history of the program.

Bob’s wife Deborah is an English teacher. They have two children named Evan and Joanna who ran high school cross country.
Bob still enjoys running and he trains four days a week.
Notable-In high school, Reinhold was best of friends with Tom Bailey and John Altermatt.
Reinhold played two years of football and he was the basketball manager for Coach Tom Murray.

Notable-Dave played soccer and track at Branford High School. e was undefeated for three seasons in the Housatonic League. As a freshman he cleared 5’1. After watching the Olympics he started to use the Fosbury Flop and he added a foot to his jump the next season. Lastly, Dave used a trampoline in the gym to build leg strength.

Post High School-Brian graduated from Yale University and moved to California. In 2008, he returned to Connecticut. He is currently a top level road runner in Connecticut.
Notable-Vinci still holds the Hornet record for most points scored (708.25) in his three year track career. Brian also played soccer and baseball. Vinci was All Hammonasett Division in cross country.

Post High School-Walker ran cross country for three seasons at Roger Williams in Rhode Island. He graduated in 1986 with a degree in business.
Professional-Steve is the Director of Financial Reporting at Sacred Heart University.
He lives in Monroe with his wife Diane and their daughters Alicia, Brittany, and Christina.
Notable-Walker was All Housy in cross country. He was also Class L All State in cross country and twice in track.
