Interdisciplinary Views and Integration in the Aging Research
Scope:The BrainConnects meetings emerged from collaborations between the Clinical Brain Lab at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore and the NeuroImaging & Informatics Lab at the National Center for Geriatrics & Gerontology (NCGG), Ohbu, Japan. The project was funded by NTU/National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and had extended collaborations with the Cognitive Engineering Lab at the Singapore Institute for Neurotechnology (SINAPSE) at NUS and the Brain and Mind Research Center (BMRC) at Nagoya University. Since the project started, BrainConnects meeting has been held every year. The meeting was firstly held in 2014 by NTU; the following year, Nagoya University hosted the second meeting.
Objectives:The main objective of BrainConnects is to explore the growing fields of aging neuroscience and cognitive engineering. The aim is to develop methods and technologies for delaying and modulating cognitive decline resulting from aging and pathophysiological changes. For that purpose, the meeting provides an opportunity for researchers in the field to introduce and review ongoing investigations of the dynamics of neuronal circuits in response to cognitive interventions. In light of the importance of interdisciplinary research, BrainConnects 2016 will bring together researchers from the fields of robotics, bioinformatics, neuropsychology and social work. This conference will allow aging researchers and neuroimaging specialists to exchange ideas and form international collaborations. Interdisciplinary communications will open the door for application of neuroscience, biomedical engineering and social science findings to prognosis, diagnosis and interventions for deficits in the elderly population.
