WELCOME TO MY PERSONAL HOME PAGE
At the very onset, I am prompted to quote Swami Vivekananda: " If you have the knowledge and see a man weak, do not condemn him. Go to his level and help him if you can. He must grow".
Namaskar!
With the grace of the Almighty, Dr. Naveen B. P. currently serves as the Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training & Research (NITTTR), Kolkata, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. He also holds the position of Nodal Officer for NCVET at NITTTR Kolkata.
Dr. Naveen holds a B.E. in Civil Engineering from the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), Bangalore, an M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering from NITK Surathkal, and M.S., Ph.D., and Postdoctoral Research in Geotechnical Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. His doctoral research, titled “Assessment of Leachate Characteristics & Geotechnical Properties of Municipal Solid Waste Landfills”, played a key role in the reopening of the Mavallipura landfill in collaboration with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB).
With over 20 years of professional experience, including academic, research, and industry roles, Dr. Naveen specializes in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, with a strong focus on solid waste management and metro foundation design. He has authored more than 90 research publications, including 38 papers in SCI/Scopus-indexed journals such as ASTM Geotechnical Testing and Environmental Pollution. He is the Chief Editor of an international journal and a peer reviewer for leading publishers, including Elsevier, Springer, Taylor & Francis, and SAGE.
Dr. Naveen’s contributions have been recognized with numerous national and international accolades, including the SERB-TARE Award, IEI Young Engineers Award, ISSMGE Foundation Award, Peace Ambassador Award from Sri Lanka, and the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Award. In 2019, he was selected by the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) to represent India at the 9th Young Asian Geotechnical Engineers Conference. He is an active member of several prestigious professional bodies, including IEEE, ASCE, ISSMGE, and IGS.
As an innovator and mentor, Dr. Naveen developed a Pile Modelling Design Kit using PLAXIS 2D & 3D for training geotechnical engineers. He is proficient in a wide array of specialized engineering software including Pollute, Deep Soil, Geo5, and AutoCAD. His teaching and consultancy portfolio includes international assignments, such as at the International Geotechnical Centre, Lima (Peru), and technical contributions to high-profile infrastructure projects like the Surat Metro, Bangladesh Railway, and the Chenab Bridge (geophysical assessment using MASW).
At NITTTR Kolkata, Dr. Naveen has led several strategic initiatives. He established the Centre of Excellence in Waterproofing Training & Research and the Computational Civil Engineering Laboratory. As Nodal Officer, he played a pivotal role in securing NCVET Dual Status for the institute. He currently serves as a Mentor to the Civil Engineering Department at Uma Charan Patnaik Engineering School (Government of Odisha) and as a Technical Advisor to SJB Institute of Technology (SJBIT), Bangalore.
Dr. Naveen has demonstrated academic leadership as Organizing Chair of the 1st International Conference on Green Technology & Sustainability (ICGTS 2025), overseeing the submission of over 120 research papers and facilitating publication in journals such as Environmental Sustainability and Materials Circular Economy. He has also organized Industry-Academia Conclaves at NITTTR Extension Centres in Bhubaneswar and Guwahati, bridging the gap between technical education and industrial practice.
His efforts in building academic-industry collaborations have led to MoUs with organizations such as Sarathy Geotech & Engineering Services, RASTA, Old Dominion University (USA), and MIDAS Software, further enhancing the institute’s research and academic infrastructure.
A notable highlight of his commitment to practical engineering education is a cost-effective concrete pavement project at NITTTR Kolkata, completed within a budget of ₹3 lakhs. The project stands as a model for sustainable infrastructure and experiential learning, benefiting students, faculty, and the broader technical community.
Dr. Naveen’s distinguished career is marked by a deep commitment to excellence in education, research, and societal advancement. His work continues to inspire future engineers and contribute meaningfully to national and global civil engineering practices.
