A few years ago after returning from a mission from our Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Israel) I was asked by a friend at the Ministry where in the States I was born and raised. After replying Chicago -south Chicago with such pride ,he said I must meet Beth who was also from Chicago and one of the Department heads. Expecting to meet a nice Jewish girl from Skokie or some other northern suburb- I met Beth...... She asked ,"what high school? I replied with pride BOWEN 66 and of course I expected her to express her awe if not fear upon meeting a real south-sider. She then responded with a smile on her face -if not smirk -she was Bowen 74 -last Jew . I of course - totally humiliated realized that even here in Jerusalem -Bowen still carries a lot of weight.
By the way today our little Bowenite 74 is now the Israeli Ambassador to UN institutions in Vienna.
