Whenever I think back to high school, I'm struck by a powerful mix of emotions - the many wonderful friends I made at Bowen, the incredible education I received, and of course band and orchestra! However, I'm all the sadder knowing that this is not the education kids receive today at Bowen.
A few of us went to Bowen's Centennial celebration last month and discovered there are things we can do to give back and make a difference to today's Bowenites.
Recently a Bowen Alumni Association formed, which is gearing up to help the school and its kids. Current plans include increasing awareness of the school's issues to fellow alumni and decision-makers, raising funds for educational programs, mentoring promising students, putting on career-oriented assemblies, and the like. In addition, the Alumni Association will provide opportunities to reconnect with the school, old friends, and an area we all called home.
Marc Edelstein and I (both from the Class of '68) recently joined the Bowen Alumni Association Board; we're urging you to join the Alumni Association and get involved. For information about the association and a membership form, please go to http://bowenalumni.org/.
