June 2022: 3rd U.S. First-Dan Certification Competition
This competition was held at Showa Boston Institute, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. Four members received their First-Dan degree. Congratulations!!
August 2021: 2nd U.S. First-Dan Certification Competition
This competition was held at our very own practice venue in Boston. Three members who ranked the highest received their First-Dan degree. Congratulations!
July 2021: 1st U.S. First-Dan Certification Competition
This competition was hosted by Washington DC's Inishie Karuta Club. From Boston, Ara Mahar ranked 2nd place to receive her First-Dan (初段) degree!
2018: Inter-high competition
In the following year, 7 of our high school members participated in the inter-high. Competing in a close match against powerhouse Utsunomiya High School, one of our members scored an impressive win.
2018: The Tama Competition
This competition was held in Tokyo, Japan, and two of our members participated! It was a great experience as both members were fairly new karuta players.
2017: Inter-high competition
This competition was held in Shiga, Japan for high school students who play karuta. On the first day, 6 of our members competed in a team competition, then went on to play in the individual competition on the second day.
2017: The Masuda Competition
This competition was held in Shimane prefecture, Japan. During this competition, one of our members, pictured below, was able to achieve the next rank in her skill group, which was C rank, 1st dan.
2013: Inter-high competition
This competition was held in Shiga, Japan for high school students who play karuta. On the first day, 6 of our members competed in a team competition, then went on to play in the individual competition on the second day.
