Bonner Parent-Teacher-Association
Membership Information
What is PTA? Why join PTA? Get involved and be part of a team working to create fun and safe events for our children and special events for our Bonner teachers. Membership keeps you informed, and members choose their level of involvement, from inactive members showing support of PTA in membership dues to active members attending monthly meetings and volunteering at our events.
The #1 reason to join PTA is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help Bonner School.
· Get Connected. There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.
· Tap into a Network. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind. Share ideas, concerns, and experiences.
· Watch Yourself Grow. By volunteering with your PTA, you put your skills and hobbies to use for a noble cause - your child and all children in the community.
· Speak Up. PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school.
· Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs, and social events.
· Be a Role Model. By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.
Annual Bonner PTA Events
SEPTEMBER
· Open House & Ice Cream Social: Volunteers are needed to monitor PTA membership tables and serve ice cream.
OCTOBER
· Halloween Treat Festival: This event provides a safe and fun environment for Bonner families to dress up, play games, enjoy concessions, and win small prizes. The money raised goes to the general fund of the PTA for our no-charge events and the Teacher’s Wish List items. Many volunteers are needed to provide candy and work the game and prize tables.
DECEMBER
· Winter Social: This event is held in conjunction with the winter music programs in December, and PTA provides free cookies in the cafeteria. We need volunteers to make cookies and baked goods.
· Little Elves Holiday Shop: Donations are collected of like-new and gently used items, including household items, picture frames, Christmas decorations, knick-knacks and more to create a "store" for K-5 students to shop for the special adults in their life. Money raised goes to provide borrowing clothes and winter gear needed for our clothes closet.
· Christmas Santa Visit: Santa comes for a visit in a fire truck. We have small gifts for each child from Kindergarten through 4th grade, and each child has an opportunity to sit with Santa. Volunteers are needed to help assemble gifts.
FEBRUARY
· Valentine’s Day Valentine-o-Grams: Parents and students can purchase silk roses for Bonner students and staff, which are delivered to them on Valentine’s Day with a message. PTA ensures that all students receive at least one. Several volunteers are needed to sell, organize and deliver the Valentine-o-grams.
· Book Fair & Chili Dinner: The Bonner Library hosts a Book Fair, and PTA provides a chili dinner for Bonner families, served by Bonner teachers. There is a small charge for the chili dinner, and all proceeds go to the Bonner School Library. Volunteers are needed to gather donations for the meal, make the food and clean up after the meal.
APRIL
· Hawaiian Family Fun Dance: A family event held in the Spring with dancing, games and treats! Volunteers are needed to staff ticket, game and treat stations.
· Lumberjack Dash for GRIT: A school-wide fun run for students to come together as one big team and show their GRIT! Alternately, 5K and 1-mile family fun runs have been organized to raise money for special projects at our school as needed. Either way, volunteers are needed at various stations around the course. PTA provides popsicles.
GRIT = Growtih Respect Integrity Thoughtfulness
MAY
· Teacher Appreciation Week: The Bonner PTA provides small gifts each day of the week and a Friday morning breakfast for teachers. Volunteers are needed to put together and deliver gifts and make and serve food for the breakfast.
· Field Day: Volunteers help run events, as directed by the PE Teacher. PTA also provides popsicles for the students.
YEAR-ROUND
· PTA Movie Nights: Movie nights are held intermittently throughout the school year. The movie is free to Bonner families, and concessions (popcorn, candy, drinks) are available for purchase. Volunteers run concessions.
· Box Tops for Education: Volunteers help collect, cut, and run the school-wide contests to raise money for Bonner School through Box Tops. This is an important way for the PTA to raise several hundred dollars each year.
· PTA Scholarship: The PTA offers a scholarship of a $50.00 Visa gift card to an 8th grade student who shows social responsibility through volunteer opportunities with PTA throughout their time at Bonner School. Given at graduation.
