Message from Joanne North, a founder of the BonEro
"Description and purpose: The BonEro Tennis League was formed for the purpose of providing enjoyable inter-club tennis competition, with minimal travel time to women of the Estero/Bonita Springs area.
Since the opportunity to meet and socialize with players from nearby clubs is a BonEro priority, a post-match period of socializing, hosted by the home team, is strongly encouraged.
It is intended players be members of the club for whose team they play. BonEro’s division II (2.5 & 3.0 divisions) offers doubles competition for senior women of age 50 and over for whom the emphasis is more on the social rather than the competitive aspect of inter-club play.
"Underlying philosophy: BonEro IS a tennis league, so we are first of all playing tennis according to the standard rules, and of course we are all trying to play as well as we can in order to win. But in the BonEro League, the intention is that all participants get to know the players on the other teams as individuals and even as friends . . . so we don't "play for blood," and we don't try to manipulate the system, and we certainly don't sacrifice the good will between us and our opponents through our behavior or attitude or language.
The spirit of BonEro leads us to think of the players on the other side of the net not as enemies, but as friendly rivals . . . so we don't need a thick rule book, 'cause common sense and common courtesy will resolve any issues. "
