Hjalmar Emil Boge was a Dane, born in 1879 at Copenhagen, Denmark. He arrived in Freemantle, Australia in March 1901 aboard the 'Fifeshire' from England and settled around the little town of Goomalling, 130km north-east of Perth. Goomalling was one of the first rural settlement and amongst the first established in WA in the 1890'sHere he was apparently employed by Mr. C W Hennessy as a farm hand (from 1902-1907) and in 1906 was naturalised as an Australian citizen. In 1909 Hjalmar (who had Anglicised his name to Henry) took a Mr Hennessey to court for unpaid wages, though whether he was successful or not remains unclear. The following year Hjalmar married Daisy Belle Collett at Perth in 1910. By this time the couple had moved on to their own selection and leased about 400 acres in the picturesque Avon valley (today a major tourist destination). The property was named 'Long Forest Farm' located at Hindmarsh just outside Goomalling.Daisy fell pregnant in 1913. At Nurse Bevan's Private Hospital though, she gave birth to a stillborn daughter. The couple would not have any further children. In 1935, Hjalmar and Daisy celebrated their silver wedding anniversary (25 years) at St Alban's Church in Perth.
Hjalmar passed away in Northam 1952 and Daisy 15 years later at Perth in 1967.
