Sports Therapy
Is a combination of various therapies using sport as its core.
Learning the basics in five core subjects (diploma in sports therapy)
We then go on to learn in greater detail how they all relate
to and revolve around sport (advanced studies).
Diploma in Sports Therapy
This is a course of one academic term's duration, approx: 240 hrs of class contact time,
details of which are set out below.
Functional anatomy & Physiology
Covering all major systems of the body: Cells and tissues, Circulatory, Vascular, Lymphatic, Endocrine,
Muscular, Skeletal, Digestive, Nervous and Respiratory systems.
Also surface anatomy and palpatory skills; osteology, joints & supporting structures.
Swedish massage
Massage theory and practice, indications and contra-indications,
development of the five classical techniques.
Basic sports injury care
Covering first aid in specifically sports related situations.
Common injuries to bone, muscles, ligaments and joints.
First contact and evaluation. Use of ice, heat and strappings. Application and effects.
Weight training & excercise physiology
Cell physiology. Respiratory mechanism.
Developing programmes for indvidual populations
undertaking excercise with cardio, fixed and free weight equipment,
appropriate to age, weight & fitness level.
Diet & nutrition in sport
Basic foods, energy content and structure, energy cycles, Vitamins and minerals.
