Gathering Details


The Blue Heron Gathering is held the week leading up to Labor Day.

Set up helpers usually arrive two days early.

There are many places to pitch your tent. Clothing is always optional. Facilities are primitive. Outdoor wood fired shower.

What to bring:

Tent and camping gear, Sleeping bag, Flashlight

Clothing for warm days and cool nights Towels, an open mind, Swimming attire

Vegetarian meals created and prepared collectively.

Cost: We ask for $20 per day, more if you can, less if you can’t. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Bunkhouse

Sleeps 8 plus.

First come first served with preference to those with special needs, including C-paps.

Beds are basic wooden frames, bring your own bedding.

Directions:

From Canada: Cross the Prescott-Ogdensburg bridge and turn onto route

37. Go approximately 2 miles and take Route 812 South. Proceed 18 miles to the

“DeKalb: sign and turn right on county route 17. After 1/2 mile turn left onto

Maple Ridge Road. Proceed 3.1 miles and turn right at Streeter Road

From Northern Vermont: Cross into NY state, find Route 11 and proceed

west. In Canton, go straight ahead, following route 68. After 1/2 mile turn left at

“Coakley’s ” and follow the Old DeKalb Road about 9 miles to the end. Turn left

on Route 812, proceed 1.1 miles and turn right onto County Route 17 go ½ mile

and turn left onto Maple Ridge Road. Proceed 3.2 miles and turn right at Streeter

Road.

From Albany area: From I-90 at Utica, go north on Route 12. At Lowville,

take Route 812 for about 40 miles to Gouverneur. Turn right on Route 11. After a

few blocks turn left onto Rock Island Road (Greg’s Restaurant). Proceed about 6

miles, look for a white frame church on your left, and turn right onto Maple Ridge

Road. Go 5 miles and turn left at Streeter Road.

From Syracuse: Proceed north on I-81 past Watertown and at exit 48A take

781 (east). After about 4 miles exit to Route 11 north and proceed to Gouverneur. In

Gouverneur turn left onto Rock Island Road (Greg’s Restaurant). Proceed about 6

miles, look for a white frame church on your left, and turn right onto Maple Ridge

Road. Go 5 miles and turn left at Streeter Road.

On Streeter Road, proceed 1/2 mile to the end of the road, past the house, past

the pond, to the parking area. Walk up the white stone path to the gathering

area.

Mass Transit:

Trailways Buses are available to Canton and Gouverneur.

Cape Air has direct flights to Ogdensburg from Boston and Albany. Call or email in

advance for pick-up at bus or airport.
