Mission. The mission of the Business & Leadership Society is to build lasting, real friendships among the role models and business-minded leaders of Villanova University. BLS hosts on- and off-campus social events and professional development opportunities, recruits students from every undergraduate academic college, and fosters mentoring relationships among members. We believe that soft skills like effective communication, creativity, and adaptability are among the most important to have in business, and BLS helps its members build them. Our ultimate goal is to empower our members as leaders at Villanova and beyond.
Section 1: Membership Qualifications. Membership in the Business & Leadership Society (BLS) at Villanova University shall be open to selected undergraduate students at Villanova University. New members will be recruited during the fall semester, and will be determined through group interviews with current Executive Board members that evaluate candidates based on their confidence, interest in BLS, and leadership potential. Active membership shall be determined by attendance at a majority of mandatory events and at least one social/non-mandatory event per semester, with the exception of students studying abroad or participating in a full-time internship program during the academic semester. Once a student graduates or ceases to be a student at the University, their membership in the Business & Leadership Society shall cease.
Section 2: Events. The Business and Leadership Society will host social, service, and professional events throughout the year. General Body Meetings will be held once a month during the academic year and are mandatory for active, on-campus members. Some social events such as Retreat and some professional events such as the Business and Leadership Conference will also be mandatory. Service events are optional but encouraged to build morale and cohesion within the Society.
Section 3: Attendance Policy. In order to be considered a member in good standing, active, on-campus members of the Business & Leadership Society must maintain a certain number of “points” per semester. The amount of points required per semester will be voted upon by all members at the first General Body Meeting of the semester and formally publicized to all members immediately following. Attendance at general body meetings and other mandatory events will be taken via Google Forms when possible. If there are technical issues, attendance will be taken on paper or by directing present members to email the official BLS account.
Section 4: Leadership. The standard term for an executive board member of the Business & Leadership Society is two semesters in one calendar year. Executive board members that are not graduating and are in good standing with the Society have the option but not the obligation to remain in their position for additional terms. Vacant positions will be filled through an application process; applications will be evaluated and chosen by the C-Suite. Leadership positions may be shared among members, with the exception of C-Suite, Membership, and Secretary, which must be held by individual members.
Section 5: Dignity and Respect. It shall be stated as part of the policy of the Society at Villanova University that membership and membership privileges must be open to all students without regard to race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other classification protected by law, so that all members of the community are treated at all times with dignity and respect. Membership and participation in the organization must also be open without regard to gender, unless exempt under Title IX.
Section 6: Membership Privileges. With membership in the Society shall come full participatory privileges on any and all items of Society business, including elections, applying for leadership positions within the Society, and attending social and professional functions.
Section 7: Removal of Members. Any member may be removed from membership for violation of the purposes of the organization or for poor attendance at mandatory functions and failure to communicate absences with the Executive Board. Member removal will take place on a case-by-case basis and will be determined at the end of the semester by a majority vote of the C-Suite leadership team (CEO, EVP, CFO, and COO). After a vote, the C-Suite leadership team will inform the member of their removal.
Section 8: Logistics. The official Business & Leadership Society email address is blsvillanova@gmail.com and all correspondence on behalf of the club should take place through this email address. All documents will be stored on the blsvillanova@gmail.com Google Drive account to ensure smooth transitions of leadership. The Business & Leadership Society also has access to the email address bls@villanova.edu, which it solely uses for email distribution list purposes to prevent emails from getting stuck in recipients' spam folders.
Section 9: Executive Board. The Business & Leadership Society Executive Board shall be composed of on-campus members in good standing that are dedicated to the Society and its success and eager to make a difference at Villanova and beyond. The C-Suite will be composed of the Chief Executive Officer/President, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer. The C-Suite has final discretion on all strategy, marketing, event, and membership decisions for the club.
